National Volunteer Week: FAQs about volunteering at the Inn

By 24 April 2017News

It’s National Volunteer Week! In 2016, our volunteers contributed 12,417 hours of their time – we truly couldn’t achieve our mission and vision without their amazing dedication. Here are a few FAQs about volunteering at the Inn:

  • Why should I volunteer? Without volunteers we would not be able to provide all the services we do for our guests. Not only is it good for us, it’s good for you too! People who volunteer have better health and lower stress levels. When you volunteer you are becoming part of a community, meeting new people and expanding your horizons. And last but not least, it’s fun!
  • What are some volunteer opportunities I can do with my friends and family? We have lots of opportunities for groups. Meal service is one of our most popular options as volunteers serve two hot meals a day, 365 days a year! You could come in with as few three volunteers or as many as eight, depending on the meal you are serving. We have facilities projects, where you come in and help care for our most loved and used rooms. This is a great opportunity for large groups as we can accommodate up to 13 volunteers and as few as three. And last but certainly not least, our birthday party crew! An exciting opportunity for sure, where you and your crew of 10-12 volunteers, plan and put on the birthday party celebrating all those that had a birthday that month.
  • Can my kids volunteer? Yes! We would love for you and your little ones to come in, we do have a minimum age of 8 years old. All volunteers under 18 years must have a parent or guardian accompany them for the whole volunteer shift. If you have kids that can’t come in but would still like to get involved, try a food drive or get them to decorate brown paper bags for our bagged lunches.
  • Can I volunteer tomorrow? No, although we love your enthusiasm! For most group volunteer opportunities we are booking 2-6 months in advance and for individual volunteers there are a few more steps before you can start.
