Inn from the Cold is a place that literally offers shelter from the cold to those who have no where else to go. We have two temporary emergency shelter programs.
Emergency Family Shelter
In October 2008, Calgary’s first Emergency Family Shelter opened, offering families a safe, stable environment to start rebuilding their lives. Located at 110 – 11 Ave. SE, the shelter features semi-private rooms for guests, a playroom, laundry facilities, a large kitchen and a family room.
At the Emergency Family Shelter, we also provide safe and secure shelter for seniors, another vulnerable homeless population. The seniors we help have their own rooms and common area that is separate from the family quarters.
During the day, adults go to work or school, or participate in programs. Young children can remain with their parents or go to daycare. School-aged children attend classes at one of our partner schools.
The Inn’s family support team works closely with families to identify and address issues that caused their homelessness. With support and resources in place, families can begin to transition into housing.
Community Shelter
Inn from the Cold operates over 60 Inns at various locations throughout Calgary. Our community program primarily provides shelter for single women and men, as well as for families when the Emergency Family Shelter is full.
Our community shelter program is an important part of the Inn’s grassroots history in Calgary and a true reflection of our community helping community.
