Emma House is a transitional housing program for up to 10 expectant mothers who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. As part of The Inn’s Supportive Housing programs, Emma House offers a nurturing environment where young families can build healthy futures. This program empowers mothers to move from vulnerability to strength, creating healthy, sustainable lives for themselves and their children.

Emma House became a program of Inn from the Cold on October 1, 2024. Learn more here.

Who is eligible for Emma House?

Emma House is open to expectant mothers (or those that have recently given birth) who are at risk of homelessness or in unsafe living conditions.

How do I access this program?

If you are an expectant mother or a mother with a newborn and are looking for support, please call or text us at 403 870 5231.

What does support look like?

Emma House offers safe, private accommodations where expectant mothers and their families can find stability during a critical time. Our program provides access to essential items such as nutritious meals, baby care supplies, and personal hygiene products. Families benefit from 24/7 trauma-informed care, tailored to their unique needs, and a comprehensive life skills program designed to empower them for a successful future. This includes support in early childhood development, positive parenting, financial literacy, nutrition, personal empowerment, and building healthy relationships. Families can remain in the program for up to 18 months after their child’s birth, ensuring they have the tools and resources to transition smoothly into independent community living.

Is there a cost to stay at Emma House?

Participants at Emma House will pay a monthly program fee.

Can I bring my other children with me?

Our program is designed primarily for expectant mothers and newborns. If you have other children, please contact us to discuss your situation, and we’ll work with you to explore available options.

How long can I stay at Emma House?

The length of stay depends on your individual needs and progress. Our goal is to provide support and stability during your pregnancy and help you transition to independent living by 18 months post-birth.

Can my partner stay with me?

Emma House is designed to provide a safe and supportive environment specifically for single mothers who may be in vulnerable situations. While we cannot accommodate partners in our program, we are committed to supporting you through our programs at The Inn. Our team can work with you and your partner to explore available resources and options that meet your needs. Please reach out to discuss your situation, and we’ll do our best to help.

Do I have to follow any rules while living at Emma House?

To ensure the safety and well-being of all residents, we have guidelines in place, such as maintaining a respectful environment and participating in program activities. Our team will review these with you during the screening and intake process and ensure this program is a fit for your needs.

“When I moved into Emma House I found myself in a home where I was accepted and loved. The staff took me under their wing they loved and cared for me when everyone else said they where not able to. My baby grew inside of me with the care and good food that I received. I was encouraged and grew in determination to carry myself with dignity. I worked hard to achieve my personal goals that staff assisted me in setting. Emma house to this day is my family’s my lifeline and support. Thank You with all my heart for your love and support Emma House!”
