The 9th annual Claire’s Campaign aims to raise $1 million during the month of May for Inn from the Cold.
As our biggest annual fundraiser, the campaign is instrumental in raising roughly a quarter of the annual funds necessary for IFTC to support up to 250 children and their families each year.
That support includes the delivery of three core family programs at IFTC: homeless prevention and diversion, short-term emergency shelter, and supportive housing.
“Our priority is keeping families in their homes and avoiding homelessness in the first place,” says Executive Director Heather Morley. “But when we can’t do that, we provide them a safety net. Families stay in our emergency shelter only as long as it’s needed to find them alternative housing.”
Donations made to Inn from the Cold during the month of May will be matched up to $500,000 by a number of core donors. Those matching donors include Claire’s Campaign Chair Gary Nissen, Karen Zutter, Gary and Liz Newell, The Carrera Foundation, Sue and Wieland Wettstein, The Anonymous Foundation, and an anonymous supporter.
Since 2013 the annual Claire’s Campaign has raised more than $7.2 million to help more than 3,600 children and their families experiencing homelessness in the Calgary region. Up to 70 per cent of our annual operating budget is funded by community donations.
“We’re very thankful for our matching donors and all the support we continue to receive from the community,” says Morley. “Our efforts to end family homelessness is only possible because there are so many people who care and who are willing and able to help.”
Community members can donate to Claire’s Campaign through Canada Helps or via our online donation webpage until 12:00 midnight on Monday, May 31st. Donors using Canada Helps can advise that their donation is intended for this year’s Claire’s Campaign by recording it in the optional field, “Send a message to this charity”.
