Special Statement: Thank you for all the support, Calgary!

By 15 June 2020News

Inn from the Cold’s supporters have brought hope and light into the lives of Calgary families who are not only facing homelessness — but also all the added stresses that come with COVID-19.

Thanks to their support and dedication, Inn from the Cold will be able to help the hundreds of families who turn to us in the coming months. This May Claire’s Campaign raised $1.15 million to fund the critical IFTC Family Support Program.

The funds raised with this annual campaign have always been very important to our ability to provide emergency shelter and supportive housing for Calgary families facing homelessness. This program enabled us to support more than 800 family members last year. But this year is like no other. With the changing pressures of the pandemic and the struggling economy on the city’s most vulnerable, community support has never been more important. We know we will have many more families turning to Inn from the Cold for help in the weeks and months to come.

Because of the pandemic, Inn from the Cold took the necessary measures to ensure the health and safety of the families staying in our communal emergency shelter. In March we relocated nearly all of our shelter families into temporary apartments in the community, where they are safely residing until COVID-19 is no longer a concern or until they find permanent housing. Food and supply hampers are delivered regularly and various social supports are provided by phone and the internet. While the province is reopening the economy, the health and wellbeing of our people remain our top priority as we determine the best way to serve families in the long term.

We have produced a special video to thank Calgary for all the support since March.
