For many families experiencing homelessness, the thought of being home for the holidays seems elusive at best. As we know, however, home is a permanent foundation of healing, safety, love, and security. Over the course of 2017, The Inn had over 33,560 bed stays in our emergency family shelter, with an overwhelming 60% being children. In 2018, we’ve only seen numbers of child and family homelessness increase.
But this season, we’re determined to help people find their own home for the holidays. And, you can help! Here are the top three ways you can help Inn from the Cold this Christmas:
BECOME SANTA’S HELPER
What parent doesn’t love to shower their children with gifts?! That’s why we created a special event for our guests called Santa’s Gift Shop. It’s a time when guests can come into a room filled with new toys, clothes, winter accessories and everyday essentials to choose for their own children to receive on Christmas Day. You can help by donating monetary gifts or new items before December 15th, knowing that your gift will impact children and give peace of mind to their parents during a time of need. SPONSOR A MEAL
Did you know over 100,950 nutritious meals were prepared and served to children and their families in 2017? That’s all thanks to generous donations from people just like you! With over 70% of donations coming from Calgarians, sponsoring a meal is one way to make a lasting impact on the health of families staying at the Inn. Learn more by clicking here.
JOIN US AT OUR OPEN HOUSE
One of the biggest ways you can help is by simply getting to know us and what we do at Inn from the Cold. We invite you to join our open house on December 8th anytime between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. for an introduction to the Inn.
