THE BIG REFRESH
The Eiffel Tower had one. The Great Wall of China. The Parthenon. And so many more.
A refresh that is, because buildings do not exist forever without a little tender, loving care.
For Inn from the Cold, this spring and summer, we’ll be giving our centuries-old Family Emergency Shelter a little TLC thanks to our generous donors and the help of volunteers. We’re calling it, The Big Refresh because it takes big hearts, big vision and big community spirit to get the job done!
The Big Refresh will spruce up the exterior and interior of our Family Emergency Shelter building, making us look picture perfect for the families who find shelter, sanctuary and healing under our roof. With the help of hundreds of volunteers, we’ll be making it visually more appealing to passers-by and those who enter our doors to stay awhile as they navigate the challenging waters of homelessness.
We’ll be adding more vibrant colours and graphics to the outside fascia, brightening the lighting, painting the shelter walls and cubicles on the 2nd and third floor and putting in beautiful new bedframes and mattresses purchased through the generosity of the Rotary Club of South Calgary. The community areas on the third floor will be getting a facelift too. Husky has Heart will not only be sending volunteers to dismantle furniture and paint the community areas, they also paid for all the paint and materials needed to freshen up on the community areas on the second and third floors.
We are also grateful to the Exploration Team at Husky who have spearheaded Husky’s engagement with this project and to Hockey Helps the Homeless who have paid for the paint and new lighting!
It’s a big job and we are grateful for the over 500 big hearted volunteers who will be coming in to dismantle, tape, paint and set up all the new furniture we’re expecting.
It takes a mighty big community to get a job this big done. Thank you, everyone, for helping out with The Big Refresh.
